The Art of Poetry

Poetry comes in many different forms and formats... Poetry is one of the only art forms where you can preach without preaching, and teach without teaching... And at it's most effective, it's healing... I've spent a lot time not only finding my voice in this art form, but also finding effective ways of communicating with other people in hopes s of reaching them through this art... I have 3 primary goals when it comes to poetry...

1. Use poetry as a tool to give hope in places and situations that I believe need hope...

2. Show people that poetry is not a novelty art form, but that it's foundational and powerful...

3. To be one of the influential poets in the world

Sacrificial Poet

You can’t claim my life, unless I hand it to you... Like I said, they called me up, because they said they needed some blood on the mic... And what better martyr, than poet who don’t die... I am my father’s child so on the lyrical the bars be biblical... And on this mic, at this moment, with this poem... I’m un-killable

Sky Dancer

I realized in that moment, that I’m probably the first man who’s ever held this child like a treasure... So I lifted her to the sky... Because that’s what you do with prayers... You give them to the air… Let them dance and unravel into something beautiful... You give them to God... Because eventually your hands become too weak to hold them there... I halfway smiled, halfway cried... Because I knew she’d be great... But I also knew the adversity she’d face... I pray, that she’d never have to run her mother’s race... But I knew the questions she’d raise...There will be days, where she will wake and wonder where her father is

And the thought of you forced my emotions into a tsunami... My body curled itself into submission... And no matter how much I tried to mend my mind... These eyes kept falling apart and I sobbed for you for you all night... But mom... Mama what’s a supposed boy to do... When his Mother Earth, goes back to the Earth... And I ain’t got enough God in me to reach into soil, to shape you back

Still Him

I’ve seen you, lick ash from the ground... Consume the remnants of burnt sacrifices... But just because you’ve tasted ember’s after burn... Doesn’t mean you can blaze like me... All you do is blow smoke... But I got a throat full of fire... A lighter for a tongue... Don’t forget who you talking to... Cause I talk back
